Frame v/s Field

This module, though application intensive, required quite a bit a conceptual thinking. We could only make use of 9 old quad modules which we constructed in rhino and had to express out interpretation of our assigned piece of story using a combinational of all the techniques learned throughout the course of FoDR.
The Origin : City and Signs
Considering the given text, as whole I got the idea of a confused traveler who longed getting to a Ethiopia but never receives it, but at the end of the section there is a possibility of a new mystery place which seemingly leads him to greener paths.

There were clear citations of the presence of signs all over the city in text but the choice of omitting them were made so as the brings focus on the city as the sign would act as distractive elements. The intention is the city to speak to and guide the observer to how he should go about her ways.

My world and perspectives expose the basic instincts and behavior of human nature further explained across the next few pages.

From initially reading the text, from the 1st line I was immediately taken to a dark and scary forest amidst stones and a sense that the character obviously wanted to get out of there. Hence, my 1st perspective view:

We have our character, in the midst of a multitude of battered blocks and bricks spiraling chaotically which clearly shows him the way out while teasing him with glimpses of the city but keeps trapping him in there with seemingly no escape. Making his hunger for the city only increase more!

Hence the delirium wash perfectly sets the mood and accurately translates the characters emotions.

On further reading, we see that his journey leads him to the city of Tamara, with its walls, statues of gods seen from the temple doors, the brothel and so on. His gaze scans the city and the city clearly tells him everything he should think and makes him repeat her discourse, hence the connecting stairs to help him repeat the cycles of prayer and sin.

But there is always an alternate route between them, which leads to a new possibility described best by the text: “ Outside, the land stretches, empty, to the horizon; the sky opens, with speeding clouds and a hand reaches out to him for a new possibility .

“ The cynicism wash brings out the belief that people of the city are selfish at heart and untrustworthy. It sets the aura for expression of negative feelings by bringing out more of a dramatic effect
The Field : Tamara
Taking inspiration from a hyperbola, my isometric is mostly focused on the journey of the character, hence the use of a long path of stairs ascending towards the city he longed for. I took the help of the circular line works and gaze arrows to reflect on the paradox of thought of the character.

Him wanting the city so much down the field but up in the city, since because of its repetitive and bland nature he gets into a train of paradox of thought and has thoughts of going back to the unknown where he felt “alive”.

The notational curved line-works on either side of the city was made use off which helped bring out the shape of the hyperbola and the 2 perspectives are positioned such that they rest on the 2 foci of the hyperbola.
